Riley Salant-Pearce grew up in Humboldt County, California, where he bought his first Canon SLR camera in the sixth grade with money he saved up by selling his artwork at local crafts fairs. At that time his dream was to study biology at U.C. San Diego, work at the San Diego Zoo, and one day be a professional wildlife photographer.

Ten years later he graduated with a Biology Degree from U.C. San Diego. His college job as a double-decker bus driver and tour guide at the San Diego Zoo led to other guiding and naturalist jobs, in Alaska's Denali National Park and in the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador at Sacha Lodge

For the past six years, Riley has worked for Backroads. As a trip leader, he led biking and hiking trips in Panama, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Argentina, Peru, Ireland, Switzerland, Spain, Botswana and South Africa. In 2013 he made the move to the Backroads Headquarters (in Berkeley) where he currently works as Trip Development Manager.

He shoots with a Canon 5D mark II.
